I've put a six in brackets because that's probably what it should have been.
My match report in one word: SHITE.
My Match report in lots of words:
I said before the game that I thought they'd beat us, but I think I probably say that every year so that's not so clever now is it?
The first half was pretty rubbish from Bury's point of view, but fairly even at the same time. The general half-time concesnus was that the increasingly useless Jordan Robertson should be replaced by either Morrell or Bishop, that Racchi isn't fit to clean Jones' (and especially Bennett's) boots and that this Tom Newey that Knilly's been banging on about is a poor replacement for Buchannan. Nothing much had happened in the first half, apart from a couple of half chances for Rochdale. Bury had failed to manage a shot on target and quite possibly a shot on goal at all.
The second half seemed to be going the same way. In fact I was about to comment that the game had nil nil written all over it when the home side scored from a deflected shot. Almost immediately the ineffective pairing of Robertson and Lowe made way for Morrell and Bishop and Bury looked slightly better for a while. Its almost as if the team's confidence improved knowing there was someone up front who could hit a barn door. Five minutes later and the hapless Danny Racchi, was replaced by Domaine Rouse. He looks the business, that boy. I just hope they get his attitude sorted out.
A few minutes after Rouse had tried to pass the ball into the bottom corner for a cheeky equaliser, a long ball into the Bury half was ignored by the Bury defence, leaving Chris Dagnall all the time in the world to fire past Brown for two nil. After that Bury gave up and Dale could have had many more. They eventually got a penalty. At first I thought it a dubious decision, but who cares? It's not like it made a difference.
So of course it was Tom Kennedy, who stepped up and gleefully fired the ball home via the underside of the crossbar. He then made up for the last five or six years of constant abuse by running up in front of the stand where the Bury fans were at first cupping his ear and then arms outstretched, and inciting a fair bit of, shall we say, 'unrest' amongst the traveling supporters.
Eee, the Bury fans were furious, all legging it down to the front to be met by a quickly gatherinbg throng of stewards and police. One bloke comically ran onto the pitch, and then wisely changed his mind, but a police officer went into the crowd after him. I hope he escaped.
All in all, it was without doubt, the worst performance under Knill. He has some work to do now because with three defeats from the first five games, something has changed. I don't know what it is, my mates don't know what it is and I don't think Sir Al knows what it is. |
