What it game! One of the best I've seen in ages. It absolutely bucketed down for a couple of hours before kick-off and the pitch was soaked.
With former England supremo Sven Goran Erikkson watching from the directors box Bury took a early 2-0 lead. The first goal saw Nardiello break through and superbly round the returning Kasper Schmeichel and coolly slip the ball into the net.
Nardiello then set up Andy Morrell for a poacher's goal in the 6-yard box.
But then Notts County fought back and it down Bury's left side where their first 2 goals were created. It looked like Newey who wad caught out of position twice who let the County winger put crosses into the box, one went straight in the other saw Lee Hughes glance it in off the post. 2-2.
Just before the break an incident happened that will be talked about down Gigg Lane for years. Nardiello again broke through and rounded Schmeichel and coolly side footed the ball towards the empty net, He went off to celebrate and I like all other Bury fans was off my seat cheering a great goal. But then the County fans erupted and Schmeichel had the ball. THE BALL HAD STUCK IN THE MUD ON THE GOAL LINE! Schemeichel was forced to make a couple of good saves from a goal mouth scramble. 2-2- at the break.
After half-time Bury won a free kick on the edge of the box, Jones squared it to BBM who hit it towards goal and Schmeichel palmed it over.
Just went you were wondering what would happen next, Dawson pulled out one of the best goals I've seen. He got the ball on the right cut back in beating two defenders and from 25-30 yards smashed one past Schmeichel that even his dad (sat in the director's box) would have had trouble stopping.
County's undoubted squad quality starting to show and they piled on the pressure, but it was a Buchanan mistake that set up the equalizer. Cross in from the left and David cut it out however, instead of knocking it out for a corner he tried to trap and control the ball. He delayed just that bit too long, was robbed and the ball promptly smashed past Brown for the equalizer.
There was only one winner at that stage as County brought subs on to try to nick a winner. County and Hughes in particular had enough chances to score one but we held out for draw. A fair result and a cracking game of football.
