The first 3pm kick-off of the year saw Bury take the lead after just 2 minutes. A foul on the edge of the box resulted direct free kick. Jones curled an absolute beauty into the top corner. I thought we would then go on to win comfortably but, it wasn’t until the 41st minute until the Hereford keeper was forced into making another save. A sharp drive from Lowe was turned round the post. From the resulting corner Sodje stabbed the ball toward goal but the keeper reacted well to keep the ball out. 1-0 at half time with Brown rarely troubled by an impotent Hereford front line.
The second half saw Bury try to grab that killer second goal. Good work from Lowe had one cleared off the line. Most of the Main Stand had thought it had gone in. It must have been close but the ref was well positioned. I’d like to see that one again. We all thought little David Buchanan was going to break his goal scoring duck when he broke into the box but fired his shot straight at the keeper.
In the last 20 minutes we ran just out of steam. We were knocking aimless balls forward with no one on the end. When we did break forward there seemed to be no attacking options in the final third. A poor Hereford side then started to make chances and really should have scored. Three good chances they fluffed, Brown pulling off two good stops.
Eventually the ref blew for full time and we claimed a vital three points. I thought this was a poor game, again poor opponents but we just did enough. We’ll have to raise it against you know who.
