Jackie Charlton actually managed Newcastle before the advent of the Premier League.

I thought it was Wim Jansen who managed Celtic but, that was in the season before the SPL was founded.

I think, if we're being pedantic,that Ardiles probably managed Spurs before the Premier League aswell. The question should have said first division I suppose.

The big prize however goes to beardyman who wins a pint of beer for naming Karl-Heinz Riedle, only problem is you have to buy it yourself.

although ardiles did indeed manage newcastle the season before the formation of the premier league, he did of course manage spurs 2 seasons later.
